The Setup:

The Diocese of Camden, the Roman Catholic diocese serving South Jersey, hosted a full-day student conference at Washington Township High School in Sewell, NJ, welcoming 1,000 attendees for a program of speaker presentations, panel discussions, and live audience Q&A. With 100 limited English proficient (LEP) attendees in the audience, the Diocese needed a scalable, budget-conscious way to give Spanish-speaking participants full, real-time access to every session, without the logistics of interpretation booths or rented receiver equipment.

The Approach:

Our remote interpreters provided live simultaneous interpretation through our cloud-based human and AI interpretation Platform, so attendees could listen on their own smartphones. Before the event, we worked with the Diocese’s team to review and test the venue’s technical setup. We checked for a dedicated wired internet connection, an XLR audio connection carrying sound from every microphone, and enough internet capacity for attendees to listen reliably. Clear instructions in English and Spanish helped attendees connect quickly and follow along in their preferred language.

On event day, our remote technical support expert oversaw all interpretation and platform services from 9 AM to 4 PM and served as the Diocese’s direct point of contact. Throughout the day, we monitored every audio stream to maintain clear, consistent sound for attendees and provide immediate technical support to our interpreters. Interpretation in both directions between English and Spanish also enabled Spanish-speaking attendees to ask questions and follow the answers during the audience Q&A.

The Result:

Our interpreters and technical team delivered clear, uninterrupted English–Spanish interpretation across the entire seven-hour program. By turning attendees’ own smartphones into listening devices, Interprenet helped the Diocese of Camden provide an inclusive, equitable conference experience for its Spanish-speaking participants while keeping the event’s technical footprint lean and cost-effective.
